What Malaga is actually like
Malaga is a walking city with the old bits stacked on top of each other.
The Alcazaba sits on Calle Alcazabilla, a Moorish fortress you climb through in switchbacks. Directly below it is the Teatro Romano de Malaga, on the same street, open at the foot of the hill. Two eras, one set of steps.
The art is the other half. Museo Picasso Malaga is on Calle San Agustin 8, in the city where he was born. Museo de Malaga sits on Plaza Aduana, in the old customs house, and covers fine art and archaeology under one roof.
Eating is easy, and it’s all within the same few streets. El Pimpi is the landmark bodega on Calle Granada 62, right by the Roman Theatre, with signed wine barrels stacked along the wall. Casa Lola is four doors up the same street at number 46. Walk five minutes north to Plaza de la Merced. Picas Bar Tapas is on the square at 19/20. El Meson De Cervantes is on Calle Alamos 11, a short hop from there.
That’s your whole trip on foot. Fortress, theatre, two museums, four tables. No metro map required.
